The Anaheim Angels acquired 1B Mark Texeira from the Atlanta Braves for 1B Casey Kotchman and a minor league reliever. Personally I feel this is a great trade for the Angels, because although Kotchman is having a great year, Texeira is simply better than he is. The only negative side of this is that Texeira is a free agent at the end of the year and Kotchman will not be until 2011. Texeira a Scott Boras client has been hinting that he would want 20 million dollars a year for about 8 years. I like Texeira a lot but personally I don't think he's worth $20 million a year.
However, I can't blame the Angels for doing this; first of all they are going to win the Al West and have a chance at having the best record in baseball. If ever there was a year to go for it all, this year would be it. As an A's fan I will hate this trade if Texeira resigns with the Angels, however, if he leaves then I will be happy because it will leave the Angels without a 1B in the future. Hence, giving the A's a better chance at winning the division. Although I hate to say it, I think with this move the Angels are the team to beat and they are my pick to win the World Series this year.
